A number of groups have formed over the years around various interests of the members. Each of these groups has its own structure and in some cases fees. The following sets out these various loosely-knit groups, and provides contact information where applicable:
Painting at Gallaghers
The many painters who belong to the Society have access to an Art Studio at the Village Centre, which is equipped with working tables, easels and a sink. The Studio is available to be booked by resident artists who wish to work together to share ideas and inspiration with like-minded colleagues. Formal painting classes by an established artist are offered on a continuous basis.
Woodworking at Gallaghers
A well-equipped woodworking shop is available to Gallaghers residents. Though not a formal club, and no lessons given, everyone is required to take an orientation on shop procedures, after which time the shop can be used for personal projects.
The Gallaghers Camera and Photo Club is an informal group, consisting of members with varied interests and skill levels, who enjoy outings and sharing information. While there are no formal club meetings, interested persons gather from time to time for workshops on photographic techniques and use of photo editing software. Monthly photo themes are a way of challenging members. The club is open to ideas and suggestions from members, with the goal being to increase their photography experience and improve the quality of their photographs.
The Potters Studio contains three wheels, a slab roller and a kiln. As a cooperative club, all members help in running the studio. Beginner and experienced potters take a studio orientation before joining, and beginners must take a series of lessons on the basics of hand building and glazing.
